Xande has the collar and sleeve guard grips and his opponent pushes down his knee shield. By simply turning his collar hand from 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock position, he can get his first choking grip under the neck. Now his other hand lets go of the sleeve and grabs the gi at the shoulder to make his second choking grip. Here he can just pull to his chest to finish, or use his guard replacing techniques to get the closed guard and have some better leverage to finish the choke.

Xande is playing the classic guard, and his opponent pushes the knee down, steps over the leg and crosses his knee to start knee cutting. As he did in the guard retention drills, Xande pulls the sleeve and places his foot on the hip. His opponent reacts by standing and pulling away, so Xande places his other foot on the hip, and now he is in perfect position to hit the omoplata, just as he did in the last technique.

He brings his leg in, pinching the arm and forcing it to bend. From here, he is pushing both of his grips, and now he can bring his leg over the arm to lock the omoplata.

Xande sets up the classic guard, and his opponent puts his knee up in the middle to defend attacks. Xande puts his foot on the floor, and pushes off the hip with his other foot to move away and change the direction his hips are facing. He's stretching his opponent's arm and places the hand on his ribs, before he brings his knee toward his head and pushes the arm past his thigh. The arm will bend and Xande can now throw his leg over the arm to lock the omoplata.

Xande's opponent smashes his shield, and this time rather than keeping his base low, he is staying on his feet and driving his weight into Xande. In this case, Xande will look for the armbar rather than the back take. Using his foot on the hip for leverage, Xande changes his angle and drags the arm across as he did before. Now his other leg bites down on the back, as it did when previously when he closed the guard. But this time, instead of closing the guard, he throws his leg over the head to finish the armbar.

Combining all the drills, Xande puts the cross choke in action. When his opponent smashes the shield, or steps over his leg, Xande shifts his head to the side and places his second choking grip. Now he uses the guard closing drills previously shown, and finishes the choke. In some situations, the neck is not open for Xande to grab the second choking grip right away. In these cases, he works the same technique to close his guard, and while he's closing the guard, he makes his second grip to finish the choke.

Xande has the cross collar grip is looking for the cross choke. His hand starts in the 12 o'clock position, and when he is ready to make his first choke grip, he turns it slightly to 1 o'clock, placing his wrist bone under the chin. Now his second hand comes over the shoulder, and grabs the back of the gi, mainly with his last three fingers, and his frame bone runs along side the neck. Another small detail is when he makes second grip and is ready to choke, his head moves across to that side just an inch or two, to get that extra leverage.
