Xande is playing the classic guard, and his opponent pushes the knee down, steps over the leg and crosses his knee to start knee cutting. As he did in the guard retention drills, Xande pulls the sleeve and places his foot on the hip. His opponent reacts by standing and pulling away, so Xande places his other foot on the hip, and now he is in perfect position to hit the omoplata, just as he did in the last technique.Add to Favorites 1291 Remove From Favorites 2245 days ago
Xande has the classic guard, and his opponent stands up, so Xande keeps his grips and places both feet on the hips. Now he pulls the collar, elevates his hip and pulls the arm out to the side. He brings his leg in, pinching the arm and forcing it to bend. From here, he is pushing both of his grips, and now he can bring his leg over the arm to lock the omoplata.Add to Favorites 1468 Remove From Favorites 2246 days ago
Xande sets up the classic guard, and his opponent puts his knee up in the middle to defend attacks. Xande puts his foot on the floor, and pushes off the hip with his other foot to move away and change the direction his hips are facing. He's stretching his opponent's arm and places the hand on his ribs, before he brings his knee toward his head and pushes the arm past his thigh. The arm will bend and Xande can now throw his leg over the arm to lock the omoplata.Add to Favorites 1728 Remove From Favorites 2248 days ago
Xande's opponent smashes his shield, and this time rather than keeping his base low, he is staying on his feet and driving his weight into Xande. In this case, Xande will look for the armbar rather than the back take. Using his foot on the hip for leverage, Xande changes his angle and drags the arm across as he did before. Now his other leg bites down on the back, as it did when previously when he closed the guard. But this time, instead of closing the guard, he throws his leg over the head to finish the armbar.Add to Favorites 1686 Remove From Favorites 2249 days ago
Xande begins in the classic guard with his opponent's arm stretched out, his foot on the hip and his other foot on the mat. Pushing off the hip, Xande turns his hips to face the other direction, and simultaneously drags his opponent's arm across his body, before closing his guard and trapping his opponent. Now he reaches over the back and cups the armpit, using the grip, as well as his top leg, to help pull him on top of the back.Add to Favorites 1634 Remove From Favorites 2250 days ago
Combining all the drills, Xande puts the cross choke in action. When his opponent smashes the shield, or steps over his leg, Xande shifts his head to the side and places his second choking grip. Now he uses the guard closing drills previously shown, and finishes the choke. In some situations, the neck is not open for Xande to grab the second choking grip right away. In these cases, he works the same technique to close his guard, and while he's closing the guard, he makes his second grip to finish the choke.Add to Favorites 1459 Remove From Favorites 2251 days ago
Xande has the cross collar grip is looking for the cross choke. His hand starts in the 12 o'clock position, and when he is ready to make his first choke grip, he turns it slightly to 1 o'clock, placing his wrist bone under the chin. Now his second hand comes over the shoulder, and grabs the back of the gi, mainly with his last three fingers, and his frame bone runs along side the neck. Another small detail is when he makes second grip and is ready to choke, his head moves across to that side just an inch or two, to get that extra leverage.Add to Favorites 1361 Remove From Favorites 2252 days ago
Now Xande's opponent uses the same two methods of smashing the shield and stepping over as previously shown, but rather than just recovering the classic guard, Xande wishes to close his guard. So following the same steps in the previous drills, once Xande recovers his first foot back on the hip, instead of setting up his knee shield, he straightens his leg, bites down on the back and closes his guard.Add to Favorites 1862 Remove From Favorites 2253 days ago
Another common situation when Xande is playing the classic guard, is his opponent stepping over Xande's leg and then smashing his shield. Xande's first reaction is to trap his opponent's other leg in the half guard, and straightens his shield leg to create some space while extending his upper body and pulling the sleeve. Now he brings his bottom foot back to the hip, pushes off to escape his hips, and resets his knee shield.Add to Favorites 2065 Remove From Favorites 2255 days ago
When Xande is playing the collar and sleeve guard, the most common reaction from his opponent is to smash the knee shield and put his weight on Xande. Xande always keeps his arm on the collar straight to keep the distance. Using both feet on the hips, Xande pushes off to hip escape, replaces his shield and resets his classic guard. This exercise can be done over and over as a good drill to practice.Add to Favorites 2119 Remove From Favorites 2256 days ago
Starting from the closed guard, Xande opens the collar and punches his hand up to make his collar grip, and keeps his arm straight to control his opponent. Next he makes the sleeve grip, and opens his elbow a little to pull the the sleeve up where he is stronger with the grip. Now he places his opposite foot on the mat and escapes his hips, placing his other foot on the hip. Finally, he brings his knee inside and up to the shoulder to make his shield. He can also do a more advanced variation where he does not place his foot on the mat, but uses his leverage to shake his hips to the side instead.
