Professor Alex Brandão starts off the class with a butterfly guard sweep series. From the butterfly, he sits up and traps his opponent's arm and head with his arms. His opponent will instinctively push Alex's elbow up to free his head, so now Alex brings the arm to the other side and traps his shoulder. With his elbow now underneath his opponent's chin, he pushes the head up and pushes the shoulder down while he uses his hook to sweep to the trapped arm side. If his opponent posts his leg out to defend, Alex can kick the leg back and sweep, or he can hook the leg and sweep to the other side and attack the reverse armbar.

Gustavo is in the deep half guard and is looking to hit his first sweep that he showed in the previous technique. However, when he gets his shin under the leg and is looking to sweep him backwards, his opponent is putting too much weight forward to defend the sweep. Gustavo swims his arm back underneath the leg and places it on his opponent's chest to keep him at a distance. Now he turns back into him, and places his X-guard hooks. Here he can stretch him out, and come on top for the sweep.Add to Favorites 802 Remove From Favorites 2640 days ago
From the deep half guard, Gustavo extends his legs and brings his knees to him in order to bring his opponent's foot close enough to reach. He hooks his arm underneath the foot and then lifts the leg by lifting his own legs up. Now he can slide his slide his other shin under his opponent's leg. From here, he can simply elevate his hips and then kick forward to sweep his opponent.Add to Favorites 801 Remove From Favorites 2641 days ago
Starting from the classic collar and sleeve guard, his opponent steps over his leg, so Gustavo Dias sits up to get the underhook and grab the belt, and his other arm underhooks his opponent's leg. Now he steps over with his outside leg to hook his opponent's leg and turns his hips the other way, bringing the leg to him so his hips are underneath. Now he is in a good deep half guard, ready to set up some different sweeps.Add to Favorites 699 Remove From Favorites 2643 days ago
Continuing the class of favorite ways to score quick points, Claudia Doval, the female heavyweight World Champion, shows her go to technique. She jumps full guard, makes both sleeve grips and drops to a foot in the biceps spider guard. She quickly throws her leg up to an omoplata, locks her legs and sits up looking to finish. If her opponent defends the submission by rolling, Claudia follows her and establishes top position to get her 2 points.Add to Favorites 781 Remove From Favorites 2644 days ago
Starting off the lesson of moves to use when you need to score in the last seconds of a match, Saulo shows his go to sweep. He pulls closed guard, and when his opponent stands up, Saulo reaches through to grab his leg and pulls his hips underneath his opponent. He goes for the muscle sweep, expecting his opponent to defend, and when he feels the resistance, Saulo opens his guard and pushes off the same side leg he has underhooked to roll himself backward. When he lands on his knees, he immediately attacks the other leg, driving in to finish the sweep.Add to Favorites 777 Remove From Favorites 2651 days ago
Tye has the sleeve and collar grips, and sets up the the arm in De La Riva guard, with his other foot on Kade's hip. He pulls Kade in and elevates him off his feet, as he would for an overhead sweep. Tye takes out his De La Riva hook, and pushes with his foot on the hip, causing Kade to fall to the mat with his back taken. Tye now can place both hooks and already has Kade's arm trapped as well.Add to Favorites 657 Remove From Favorites 2653 days ago
Tye shoots his leg over Kade's arm to set up the arm in De La Riva again, but this time he is below the elbow and cannot do the armbar. He grabs the other sleeve and kicks out Kade's leg to break his posture. From spider guard, Tye raises his hips off the mat and shoots his leg over Kade's arm, and pushes the arm away before he traps it with a De La Riva hook. Now Tye swims his arm under Kade's arm and places his hand on his own knee. By raising his elbow from here, he can force Kade to tap from the armbar.Add to Favorites 670 Remove From Favorites 2655 days ago
Again, Kade gets the underhook, kicks his knee shield and comes up to his knees, looking to sweep. Tye gets the whizzer and defends the first two sweep attempts. Going to his third option, Kade pushes into Tye, causing Tye to push back. Kade shoots his posted arm underneath Tye's leg to hook it, and rolls over his side and bridges to come on top to finish the sweep.Add to Favorites 706 Remove From Favorites 2656 days ago
Kade is in his half guard and sets up his position the same as last time, by getting the underhook, shooting his knee shield through, torquing Tye's leg and then posting up on his elbow to get to his knees. But now, Tye puts the whizzer on Kade, preventing him from bumping him forward as he did last time. So instead, Kade reaches across to grab the far leg, and drives his weight forward, sweeping Tye. He lands in a great position to immediately look to pass the guard and establish side control.Add to Favorites 810 Remove From Favorites 2657 days ago
Kade is playing half guard with his knee shield in place, and Tye is working to pass with a knee cut. Kade swims his arm in for the underhook and grabs the belt, and his other hand reaches for a pants grip. He kicks his knee shield leg straight, and uses it to hook Tye's ankle and torque it back, forcing Tye's hips open. Now he can release the pants grip, post up on his elbow and get on both knees. From here Kade forces Tye forward with a big bump from his shoulder, and comes up top to take his back.
