Luiz shows another position from the reverse De La Riva, using the same set up kicking his opponent forward. This time, however, his opponent sits back as to not give up his back. Luiz uses this opportunity to come up on the single leg and sweep his opponent, immediately looking to pass the guard.

Luiz starts in the reverse De La Riva guard with a grip on his opponent's lapel, and uses his hook to kick his opponent forward. This gives Luiz the space he needs to spin underneath inverted, like the kiss of the dragon, ending up behind his opponent. Now he grabs the pants, puts his outside hook inside the legs, and stretches his opponent out in front of him, allowing him to get the back.Add to Favorites 1116 Remove From Favorites 3228 days ago

Luiz is in his half guard and his opponent is trying to pass with the over-under grip. First Luiz makes a grip on his opponent's sleeve and blocks his shoulder with his elbow. He turns his belly toward the mat, bringing his hips up and creating space for him to pull his leg out and lock the triangle, where he can finish the choke.Add to Favorites 1331 Remove From Favorites 3236 days ago
Luiz starts these techniques in the 50/50 guard, but now his opponent has a grip on his sleeve, stopping him from tying up the foot as he did before. In the first position, he just grabs his shin, pinches his elbow and finishes the foot lock. In the second position, he locks the foot with his other arm and finishes.Add to Favorites 1298 Remove From Favorites 3237 days ago

Luiz explains the details needed to finish a foot lock. The key is to put the blade of your forearm on underneath your opponent's calf, right where it meets his achillies tendon. Luiz grabs his near side lapel and closes his elbow, squeezing the toes. Now he crosses his leg over and pinches his feet together, leans on his elbow, and turns belly down to finish the foot lock.Add to Favorites 1527 Remove From Favorites 3244 days ago
Xande now covers escaping the half guard when your opponent switches his base toward you and controls under your arm this time. Xande must lock his opponent's leg with his calf, and use his elbows to shimmy his way up and create space to frame. Now he can turn into his opponent and replace the guard as he did previously. Sometimes he is even able to grip the belt, post on his hand and scoot out so he can take the back.
