JT shows a guard pass he likes to use when his opponent is playing open guard. JT dives his lead shin behind his opponent's knee and his arm swims underneath the other leg. His other hand and foot are posted on the mat, driving his weight onto his opponent. JT swims his arms to get head and arm control, and his leg that is posting comes over the top of his opponent's legs and knee cuts to side control.

Xande discusses his fight with Mahamed Aly at the World Pro Grand Prix, and shows how he should have passed the lasso guard. Muhamed was playing a half guard with Xande's arm lassoed, so Xande's first step is to use that arm to grab the pants on the bottom leg, and put the crown of his head on the shoulder. Now he uses his free hand to grab either the collar or sleeve, before cutting his knee out of the half guard. From here, he applies pressure with his head, and establishes a knee on belly, where he is able to break the lasso grip.Add to Favorites 892 Remove From Favorites 3098 days ago
From inside the half guard, Fredson grips his opponent's belt and sandwiches that same side leg between his legs. Next he moves his belt grip to the back of the pants and drops the weight of his shoulder on his opponent's hips. Now he steps his leg out of the half guard, pulls the far knee toward him and steps over to finish in the mount.Add to Favorites 1011 Remove From Favorites 3099 days ago

From the open guard, Fredson swims both arms under his opponent's legs and controls at the knees. He steps his feet toward his opponent and sits back, keeping control of the legs. Depending on how his opponent reacts, he can choose which side to pass by throwing the legs down and sitting up to side control.Add to Favorites 884 Remove From Favorites 3105 days ago
From the half guard, Fredson gets the underhook and controls his opponent's arm at the elbow, and pulls him to his side. He turns his hips in to free his knee out of the half guard, and then knee cuts while stepping his other leg over the head. From here, he spins over the head and sets up the arm bar.Add to Favorites 884 Remove From Favorites 3112 days ago

Saulo shows a pass from the butterfly guard when your opponent is very close and tight with his hooks and his grips. Xande uses the same passing principles as before, but now while he's toreando passing to one side, he swims the arm of the side he's passing to under the leg, and immediately changes the side he passes to. He drops to the shoulder land and finishes the over-under pass.Add to Favorites 928 Remove From Favorites 3118 days ago
Starting with the same grips at the shin on the pants, Xande begins the toreando pass as he did before, but for whatever reason he doesn't feel comfortable finishing the pass as he did in the previous positions. Instead, he swims his far arm undernee ath the leg, and stretches his other arm to keep the near leg immobilized. From here he can work to side control, or establish his base in the half guard if he prefers.Add to Favorites 882 Remove From Favorites 3119 days ago
Xande shows another variation of the toreando. He makes his grips on the pants at the shins, like he did before, and passes to the side while keeping weight on the legs. Now when he gets to the side, instead of going to knee on belly, he drops his shoulder on to his opponent's chest and establishes side control. It is important that he doesn't turn his hips to face his opponent or sprawl them to the mat.
