Now Saulo is looking to pass Xande's open guard, and there three key points he focuses on. First, he makes sure not to stay right in the center of Xande's legs. Second, he looks to make Xande turn to one side or the other. Third, he doesn't let Xande place his feet on his hips. Once he is ready to make his move, Saulo steps to the side and pushes Xande's foot down, stuffing it between his legs. Here is where he can establish a solid base and has several passing options depending on Xande's reaction.

Again from inside his opponent's butterfly guard, Rene looks to pass to the mount as he did before, but this time his opponent blocks his leg with his knee. Rene cuts his knee to the inside, smashing his opponent's legs to the mat. From here, he can step back to establish side control.Add to Favorites 726 Remove From Favorites 2590 days ago
Professor Rene's opponent is sitting up in butterfly guard with his arm across Rene's back, so his first line of defense is to grab the collar and drop his elbow down, preventing a good underhook. Next he posts his free arm far away on the mat, and his opponent reaches for the arm, looking to sweep. Rene now has space on the side to step his leg over into an S-mount position. From here, he pulls the arm up and swings his leg over the head to sit back and finish the armbar.Add to Favorites 702 Remove From Favorites 2649 days ago
Tye is standing up and looking to pass Kade's open guard, so he grabs his shins and pins his heels to his butt. Next he brings both his feet to the outside of Kade's hips, and pinches his knees together, trapping Kade's feet. He turns to one side, slicing his shin across and freeing it of Kade's hook, and then turns back the other way, dropping his weight on top of both of Kade's legs. Now he can back step and establish side control.Add to Favorites 656 Remove From Favorites 2660 days ago
Xande's opponent is playing butterfly guard and has both underhooks on him. Xande's first move is to swim his arm in for the underhook on the opposite side of his head. Using his underhook, Xande drives his opponent sideways to the mat, and simultaneously breaks his hip so that his right hip lands on top of his opponent's right hip. Now he is back in his Escrima position, ready to pass by bringing his knee up and cutting it.Add to Favorites 686 Remove From Favorites 2662 days ago
Xande's opponent is playing butterfly guard with both hooks, so Xande first picks a side to lower his head to, and pushes the same side knee down as he posts his leg out and gets a good underhook on the other side. He keeps his weight down to fend off any hook sweep attempts. Next he breaks his hip to the mat, facing the outside. His opponent will now lock up the half guard, and Xande is in perfect to position to finish the escrima pass as shown before.Add to Favorites 760 Remove From Favorites 2726 days ago
Leticia's opponent is on her back playing an open guard, so Leticia lowers her level, grabs the pants at the inside of the knee and places her hand on the other hip. She drops her level even more, keeping her elbow connected to her body and her hip, not allowing her opponent to place the knee shield. She slides her hand from the hip to underhook the arm, as her other hand slides over the other arm and grabs the triceps. Now she drops her shoulder and places her head on the side of her opponent's head. From here, she pulls both elbows and slides her knee until her leg is free from the guard. To finish the pass, she connects her hip to her opponent's hip, walks the legs back and establishes side control.Add to Favorites 780 Remove From Favorites 2736 days ago
Again from the crab stance, Xande pins his opponent's leg to the mat and swims his other arm under the leg to put on the pressure, looking for the traditional pass. His opponent blocks his hip on the passing side, so Xande pushes his knee through to pin the open leg with his shin, using his foot to hook the thigh. Next he controls the head with his arm, and releases his grip on the collar as he back steps his leg out of the guard, keeping control of both legs still. Now he pushes off his foot to keep pressure on his opponent, so he can release his hook and establish side control.Add to Favorites 809 Remove From Favorites 2737 days ago
Xande teaches the first pass of this series, which is also his favorite pass. From the crab stance, Xande picks a side and changes his scoop hand to push down on the thigh, and as the leg goes to the mat, he swims his other hand under the other leg. He makes a grip on the collar with his palm facing down. The common reaction by his opponent is to attack his inside arm and look for the triangle, so Xande drives his weight forward and starts walking toward the other side. When Xande gets perpendicular to his opponent, he drops his hips to push the leg aside, and establishes side control.Add to Favorites 963 Remove From Favorites 2738 days ago
To begin this lesson on passing the guard, Xande teaches the basics of the crab stance. He begins by placing both hands on his opponent's stomach, standing up and pushing the knee to open the guard. Once the guard is open, Xande widens his stance so his knees are behind his opponent's knees, and he squats to find his base. His elbows are on the outside of his own knees, and his hands cup his opponent's thighs. Now from this crab stance, when his opponent moves, Xande moves with him, always keeping these points of connection in tact.Add to Favorites 1036 Remove From Favorites 2750 days ago
This time, Mario's opponent stays on her back with both feet up, and Mario wants to pass without engaging her guard. Keeping his distance, Mario slaps his hands on one shin and one knee, and very quickly turns his opponent like a steering wheel. He emphasizes the touch and go aspect of this drill, and does it over and over at a quick pace.Add to Favorites 1052 Remove From Favorites 2751 days ago
Mario first shows a variation of the previous drill, where he spins his opponent and passes to north-south. Next he shows a knee slice drill, again when his opponent sits up to play guard. Mario grabs the back of her gi and her knee, and steps his leg inside her legs. He pushes her down to the mat, and slides his knee across her thigh to pass the guard. Again, he immediately gets up and repeats the drill at a fast pace.
