Now Xande answers some questions on how he uses the 2-on-1 arm control with a grip on the sleeve and the triceps. While playing guard with this type of control, he has many variations of attacks, but in this video he focuses on using it to set up a butterfly guard and attack from there.Add to Favorites 595 Remove From Favorites 1716 days ago
Now Xande shows the omoplata from the classic guard. The big key for him to switch his hips to the right position comes from using his pedal on his opponent's hip. He also uses his archer pose to open up his opponent's side, making it easy to throw his leg over for the omoplata.Add to Favorites 616 Remove From Favorites 1717 days ago
Now Xande shows some movement drills to set up his hip switch, which is very similar to the forward hip escape that many people drill. This is the main movement he uses to get from the classic guard to the side closed guard. The perfect opportunity for Xande to make the transition is when his opponent doesn't fall for the cross choke setup.Add to Favorites 613 Remove From Favorites 1720 days ago
When Xande's opponent stands up to pass his classic guard, the principles of guard retention remain the same. He makes sure to not be lazy with his sleeve grip and keep his archer pose. He can use his flare to break a pants grip and even go to foot in the biceps. If his opponent steps to the side, he snake bites and pedals to regain his guard. He also likes to stretch his collar grip arm and use his iron fist to keep his opponent at a distance.Add to Favorites 616 Remove From Favorites 1722 days ago
Xande explains how he uses the scissors sweep to set up many attacks, but sometimes when his opponent steps over the leg, he looks away and doesn't give Xande the choke right away. This is when Xande looks to activate his archer pose. He uses the snake bite as he did before, and stretches his body away, or becomes elegant, so he is in a good position to set up other attacks.Add to Favorites 638 Remove From Favorites 1727 days ago
Now diving more into the classic guard, Xande has the collar and sleeve grip and shows how he uses the archer pose. The archer pose is when he extends his body and pulls the sleeve grip up high, leaving his hands in a position as if he's pulling the string back on a bow, hence the archer pose. This pose will weaken his opponent's base and give Xande the leverage he needs to throw his attacks.Add to Favorites 665 Remove From Favorites 1728 days ago
Xande covers how to put all his defensive concepts together when his opponent is combining the bullfighter and cross knee passes. One detail he must be cautious of is to make sure he gets his knee in front of him and at the right angle before his opponent closes the distance.Add to Favorites 739 Remove From Favorites 1729 days ago
Xande goes over defending the cross knee or knee cut pass while playing the classic guard. He shows how he incorporates his diamond concept as well as the snake bite and flare to retain his guard and prevent from being passed.Add to Favorites 760 Remove From Favorites 1730 days ago
Now Xande goes over his concept of the 'snake bite', which is his term for trapping and pinching his opponent's leg between his shins. By using the snake bite, he is able to give himself leverage to either pull himself to a half guard, or use his pedal to reset his classic guard.Add to Favorites 722 Remove From Favorites 1731 days ago
Now Xande covers how he uses his diamond defense concept to defend against the bullfighter or toreando pass when his opponent is using one hand on his hip and one hand on his knee. As his opponent goes to the side, Xande frames the arm and turns to his hip. His bottom leg, or pedal foot, comes to the hip so he can square himself back up to his opponent.Add to Favorites 636 Remove From Favorites 1734 days ago
Now Xande shows how he can keep his diamond posture and use his jack lever, or bottom foot, to keep himself moving and following his opponent. He can use this as a drill by having his partner walk around him, and he uses his foot to pull him and stay in front of his partner.
