Gustavo shows a guard he began using after a knee surgery, which allowed him to play guard without too much stress on his knee. From an open guard or perhaps a De La Riva, his opponent pushes his knees and pressures with his inside leg. Gustavo reaches under the leg to grab his own shin, making a kind of modified De La Riva hook, and his other leg hooks behind the inside leg. Now using his hooks and collar grip, he can pull his opponent and get off balance, setting him up for various sweeps which he will show next.

From outside his opponent's open guard, Tyrone sits on top of his opponent's hooks, placing himself in the butterfly guard, while staying on his toes rather than his knees. He grabs the pants at the hip and places his shoulder outside the knee, so he can use it to drop his weight and smash the legs. Now he is back to the side smash position and has the same passing options as before.Add to Favorites 580 Remove From Favorites 2208 days ago
Tyrone's opponent has a reverse De La Riva hook and is crossing his feet the opposite way one normally would, preventing Tyrone from cutting his knee out. Tyrone steps back and grabs the belt with his hand that was gripping the knee. He steps his trapped leg to the side and sprawls on his opponent's legs. He grabs the sleeve and drives his inside leg forward some more, and now has the option to step back and pass to the side or go straight to mount.Add to Favorites 231 Remove From Favorites 2209 days ago

Following the same set up as before, Eduardo traps the arm, hooks the leg and elevates his opponent. However, instead of looking to recover closed guard this time, he looks to sweep instead. Now when he brings his leg to the outside, he uses it like a scissor to sweep his opponent and establish his top position.Add to Favorites 588 Remove From Favorites 2212 days ago
From the half guard, Eduardo attempts the bridge sweep shown in the previous technique, but he cannot get his leg on the outside of his opponent's far leg this time. So now he pulls his opponent on top of him, grabs the far knee and hooks the inside of the trapped leg. Using his hook, he lifts his opponent and creates space to bring his other leg around to close his guard.Add to Favorites 642 Remove From Favorites 2213 days ago
Eduardo's opponent is on top in half guard with heavy shoulder pressure, so Eduardo locks the inside leg with a triangle and pushes the foot away with his foot. Now he grabs the hand that is pushing his knee, and pulls it down. He reaches over the arm and grabs the belt, trapping the arm now. Next he moves his legs so that his foot is now blocking the far leg rather than the near foot, and his other foot plants on the mat so he can bridge and sweep his opponent.Add to Favorites 624 Remove From Favorites 2214 days ago
From standing, Eduardo gets his cross collar and sleeve grips, and kicks at his opponent's leg to make him step back. This opens the space for him to pull half guard. Now depending on his opponent's reaction, he can set up different sweeps. If his opponent stays on his knees, he shoves the wrist to the body and kicks back to roll his opponent. If he steps one leg up, Eduardo comes underneath to an X guard and sweeps.Add to Favorites 538 Remove From Favorites 2215 days ago
From standing up, Eduardo has his arm resting on his leg to protect from takedowns. As his opponent shoots in for the single leg, he cups the chin, pushes the head to the outside and sets up his guillotine lock. From here he has the options to finish while standing up, or fall back to a closed or half guard to finish.Add to Favorites 673 Remove From Favorites 2216 days ago
Eduardo is on his opponent's back with his collar choke grips, and his opponent looks to escape by putting him on his back and hopping over his leg. Eduardo keeps his grips and his top hook, and climbs to the top where he can apply the pressure and finish his choke.Add to Favorites 645 Remove From Favorites 2218 days ago
From his opponent's De La Riva guard, Eduardo makes a collar and pants grip, and steps over the leg. Here he changes his grips so the hand on the pants grabs the collar and his other arm swims under the hook leg. He grabs his opponent's hand to break his grip, and dives his arm underneath the head before taking a big back step, keeping control of the wrist until he settles into side control.Add to Favorites 655 Remove From Favorites 2219 days ago
Eduardo's opponent is working to pass his guard with the knee cut, so his first line of defense is to block his arm at the biceps. Now he does a big bridge into his opponent, stretching his outside arm across as far as he can. This creates the space he needs to swim his head and body out from underneath, and get to a control position while his opponent is on his knees.
