Xande sets up the classic guard, and his opponent puts his knee up in the middle to defend attacks. Xande puts his foot on the floor, and pushes off the hip with his other foot to move away and change the direction his hips are facing. He's stretching his opponent's arm and places the hand on his ribs, before he brings his knee toward his head and pushes the arm past his thigh. The arm will bend and Xande can now throw his leg over the arm to lock the omoplata.

Xande's opponent smashes his shield, and this time rather than keeping his base low, he is staying on his feet and driving his weight into Xande. In this case, Xande will look for the armbar rather than the back take. Using his foot on the hip for leverage, Xande changes his angle and drags the arm across as he did before. Now his other leg bites down on the back, as it did when previously when he closed the guard. Combining all the drills, Xande puts the cross choke in action. When his opponent smashes the shield, or steps over his leg, Xande shifts his head to the side and places his second choking grip. Now he uses the guard closing drills previously shown, and finishes the choke. In some situations, the neck is not open for Xande to grab the second choking grip right away. Xande has the cross collar grip is looking for the cross choke. His hand starts in the 12 o'clock position, and when he is ready to make his first choke grip, he turns it slightly to 1 o'clock, placing his wrist bone under the chin. Now his second hand comes over the shoulder, and grabs the back of the gi, mainly with his last three fingers, and his frame bone runs along side the neck. Xande's first reaction is to trap his opponent's other leg in the half guard, and straightens his shield leg to create some space while extending his upper body and pulling the sleeve. When Xande is playing the collar and sleeve guard, the most common reaction from his opponent is to smash the knee shield and put his weight on Xande. Xande always keeps his arm on the collar straight to keep the distance. Using both feet on the hips, Xande pushes off to hip escape, replaces his shield and resets his classic guard. Starting from the closed guard, Xande opens the collar and punches his hand up to make his collar grip, and keeps his arm straight to control his opponent. Next he makes the sleeve grip, and opens his elbow a little to pull the the sleeve up where he is stronger with the grip. Now he places his opposite foot on the mat and escapes his hips, placing his other foot on the hip. Finally, he brings his knee inside and up to the shoulder to make his shield. Continuing from the sweep in his last lesson, Gustavo starts with grips on both pants and his opponent on all fours. He moves to the right side and reaches underneath and across to grab the lapel. He pulls up on his pants grip and drops his weight down with his shoulder to flatten his opponent. Moving on to his final match, Gustavo shows a back take he used, starting from the butterfly guard. With his underhook grabbing the belt and his other hand grabbing the elbow, he attempts the basic butterfly sweep, causing his opponent to post on his leg. Gustavo reaches to grab the leg, and scoots underneath, bringing his other foot to the hip and setting up the X-guard. From here, he swims his arm under the leg and forces the knee to his chest, and drops his hook from the hip to the shin and forces his opponent to his knees. Next he passes the leg over his head, hooks behind the knee and grips both pant legs. Gustavo's knee is behind his opponent's thighs and his weight on top of his the legs. His opponent frames at Gustavo's neck, so makes a same side grip on the collar, and feeds to his other hand, threatening the choke. Now he uses the leverage to keep his weight on him, and pass to the original side and establish side control.
