Xande discusses some details about keeping a strong base while standing up to pass the guard. When he gets into his combat stance, his knees are bent, his back is straight and his forearm is rested on his thigh. This gives him a strong base to work his passes and defend attacks.

Once again from his opponent's single leg X-guard, Victor controls both legs, pulling the one on his hip and pushing the one hooking his thigh. When the hook is behind his knee, he turns his own knee in and windshield wipers his leg over the hook. Now he stretches the leg back away from him and drops his outside knee to the mat, placing himself in the three quarter mount. From here he can get his underhooks up high and free his leg to take the mount.Add to Favorites 641 Remove From Favorites 2126 days ago
In this series, 7X World Champion and one of the top current Brown Belt Competitors, Victor Hugo shows some of his favorite techniques. First, from his opponent's single leg X-guard, Victor keeps a low base with his knee turned to the inside. He breaks his opponent's grip on his sleeve and then peels the foot off his hip. Xande points out a key detail of not angling your hip too much when in the over-under. While staying on his toes and keeping pressure with his shoulder, he turns his hips just enough so his thigh can block his opponent's leg. He does not want to turn so much that he eases his pressure or gets himself off balance.Add to Favorites 648 Remove From Favorites 2146 days ago
Now starting on his feet from the combat base, Xande holds one knee and grabs the pants at the inside of the other knee before stepping to that side. As his opponent turns and looks to block Xande, he lowers his level, brings his elbow inside, shrugs his shoulder to his head and dives in with his head hitting the thigh. He reaches under to grab the belt and drops his shoulder and head into position. After establishing his over-under position, he can pass either way that he's shown.Add to Favorites 647 Remove From Favorites 2147 days ago
Xande's opponent is playing a knee shield guard and blocking his shoulder, so Xande's first step is to grip the belt and the pants. Xande pushes the knee in causing the reaction of his opponent to open his knee, giving Xande space to roll his arm to the inside with his shoulder inside the knee and he reaches under to grab the belt. After getting on his toes, he turns his head toward his hand and drops his shoulder on the stomach. From here he shows two options to pass by either stepping his leg over or windshield wiping his leg over.Add to Favorites 682 Remove From Favorites 2212 days ago
From outside his opponent's open guard, Tyrone sits on top of his opponent's hooks, placing himself in the butterfly guard, while staying on his toes rather than his knees. He grabs the pants at the hip and places his shoulder outside the knee, so he can use it to drop his weight and smash the legs. Now he is back to the side smash position and has the same passing options as before.Add to Favorites 580 Remove From Favorites 2213 days ago
Tyrone's opponent has a reverse De La Riva hook and is crossing his feet the opposite way one normally would, preventing Tyrone from cutting his knee out. Tyrone steps back and grabs the belt with his hand that was gripping the knee. He steps his trapped leg to the side and sprawls on his opponent's legs. He grabs the sleeve and drives his inside leg forward some more, and now has the option to step back and pass to the side or go straight to mount.Add to Favorites 231 Remove From Favorites 2214 days ago

From standing up, Eduardo first gets a cross collar and sleeve grip. When his opponent shoots in to grab his leg, Eduardo stuffs the takedown with his collar grip and pulls the arm between his legs. Next he wraps his arm around the neck like a guillotine, while keeping the collar grip, and then dives his arm and head underneath his opponent's body. He rolls him down to the mat ending up on his back, and feeds his arm between the legs. To finish the loop choke, he brings his elbow to his body.Add to Favorites 717 Remove From Favorites 2265 days ago
