Using the same setup as before, Victor goes to the chair sweep and then spins to establish the X-guard. This time his opponent keeps more pressure and doesn't allow Victor to push him away for the sweep. Now Victor pulls the top leg over his head and grabs the belt, trapping the leg with his arm. His opponent stands up to prevent Victor from going to his back, but now he can easily knock him backward and come to the top in a perfect leg drag position.

From an open guard with a collar and pants grip, Victor hooks his inside foot behind the thigh and pulls his opponent to make him step forward. Next he extends his leg and then bumps behind his opponent's other leg, forcing him to base on the mat and giving Victor the opportunity to swim his arm between the legs and get a deep half guard. He lets go of his pants grip and grabs under the leg to a chair sweep position, causing his opponent to lean forward to defend the sweep. Now he blocks the hips with his arm, spins to face his opponent while sliding his knee in between them. Here he has the leverage to place his X-guard hooks and push his opponent away so he can stand up and finish the sweep, ready to pass the guard.Add to Favorites 721 Remove From Favorites 2148 days ago
Xande goes for his hook sweep, but his opponent defends by posting his leg out. Xande reaches his arm all the way under the leg and uses his foot on the mat and his hook to pull himself underneath, forcing his opponent to base himself. Xande lets go of the belt to push the chest and hugs the leg with his shoulder. Gustavo sets up the same guard and does his push pull to off balance his opponent to the side, and force him to post with both hands on the mat. From here Gustavo releases his collar grip to block the arm, places his inside foot on the inside of the thigh and pushes his opponent away. This creates the space he needs to bring his other leg underneath to make a X-guard hook. Now he can stand up into base, holding the leg to sweep his opponent.Add to Favorites 657 Remove From Favorites 2210 days ago

Gustavo shows a guard he began using after a knee surgery, which allowed him to play guard without too much stress on his knee. From an open guard or perhaps a De La Riva, his opponent pushes his knees and pressures with his inside leg. Gustavo reaches under the leg to grab his own shin, making a kind of modified De La Riva hook, and his other leg hooks behind the inside leg. Now using his hooks and collar grip, he can pull his opponent and get off balance, setting him up for various sweeps which he will show next.Add to Favorites 636 Remove From Favorites 2252 days ago

Fine tuning the tripod sweep, Gustavo stresses the importance of turning to your side so your hips are facing your opponent instead of staying flat on your back. Otherwise your opponent can keep a strong base and not be swept. Also, whether this series is the one for you or not, it's key to have a go to technique for when you need to score a quick two points in competition.Add to Favorites 678 Remove From Favorites 2311 days ago
In this situation, after Gustavo pulls guard his opponent steps forward rather than pull back, so Gustavo is immediately ready to play guard. Sometimes he will pull the sleeve across and go right to De La Riva guard. But a better option can be to place his foot on the near hip, hook the far leg behind the knee and use the tripod sweep to get on top.Add to Favorites 648 Remove From Favorites 2312 days ago
