His opponent pulled a deep half guard, so Xande made sure to get the underhook and sprawled to keep his weight heavy on his opponent's head. He was able to step his leg over the head, and then pulled his elbow tight to his body to keep his opponent's arm trapped. His opponent turned in to him, and Xande was able to create the space to switch his grip to a kimura trap. His opponent tried to defend with different grips, but Xande was able to use his leverage to break the grip and finish the kimura.

In his first fight in the absolute division, Xande fought Formiga, and knew he would pull guard, so Xande also pulled, landing in the double guard pull position. As Formiga pulled Xande's lapel, Xande grabbed his pants on the inside leg, stood up at an angle and immediately passed with the X-pass. Xande's opponent is attempting to pass with the over under grips, so Xande blocks the over arm, and drops his leg heavy on the other shoulder. He escapes his hips enough so he can sit up and grab his opponent's belt. From here, he reaches over the back to grab the lat, and forces his leg free, landing in the turtle position. In the fight, his opponent was able to sit out and restart the fight standing.
