One of Dominyka’s favorite positions is the closed guard, and here she focuses on breaking her opponent’s posture so she can set up her attacks. Her first method is to cup the back of her opponent’s elbows and pull in with her arms and legs. Another option is to make a two on one grip on one hand, and drag it across while escaping her hips to open up back attacks. Finally, she can grab both hands to break the grips on her belt, raise them up and push them out as she pulls her opponent in with her legs to break her posture.

Dominyka covers the basics of pulling guard properly. Her first step is to lower her level and get in a good base. When she goes to make grips, she grabs what she can and quickly pulls her opponent hard, dragging her to the side if possible, as she goes down to the mat. Now she can start setting up whatever guard she wants to play. It's important that she acts quickly and doesn't hesitate.Add to Favorites 606 Remove From Favorites 2839 days ago

Xande shows the final submission he used, which is the fastest he's ever submitted an opponent. His opponent pulls guard, but since he did not control Xande's sleeve on the side of the foot he used on the hip, Xande immediately used the X-pass to get to side. His opponent went for the single leg, but Xande got the underhook and dropped his weight. He steps all the way over the head to the other side, and spins to take the armbar, while his other hand reaches to grab the knee.Add to Favorites 926 Remove From Favorites 2842 days ago
Xande breaks down the submission he used in one of his recent fights, which is a basic armbar from closed guard. Xande first attempts a basic cross choke, while his opponent is pushing him away and keeping his arms straight. After escaping his hips and breaking his opponent's posture, Xande climbed his legs high, above the shoulder, trapping the arm. Now he just brings his leg over the head to finish the armbar.Add to Favorites 850 Remove From Favorites 2844 days ago
Xande focuses on the proper way to position your hand when choking from the back. A common mistake is when people keep their palm facing away, rather than facing up, so they can look at their watch, as Xande says. He also shows some options using his other hand underneath his opponent's arm.Add to Favorites 829 Remove From Favorites 2845 days ago
Xande gets the mount on his opponent, but before he can make any grips, the guy turns to his side, so Xande switches to the technical mount position. Xande reaches under his opponent's arm to open the lapel to the outside, and his other hand comes under the neck and grabs with his thumb inside. Here he has many options to finish the choke, including using his free hand behind the neck, sitting back for the bow and arrow, or staying on the back and rolling through if his opponent rolls.Add to Favorites 826 Remove From Favorites 2846 days ago
Xande shows two of the basic ways to hold side control when you are facing your hips toward your opponent. The first and most basic is with your bottom leg in front and your top leg posted with the knee up. However, for this position, he switches his legs so his top leg is in front. This will allow him to slide his hips over the torso when he goes for mount.Add to Favorites 755 Remove From Favorites 2847 days ago
From side control, Xande is anchoring himself down with the underhook and either crossface or a grip on the shoulder, while his opponent tries to face him and push him off. Xande slides his hip up his opponent's torso, and continues sliding his entire leg, until his foot crosses over to mount. Xande emphasizes the importance of using his hip to slide across first, not his knee.Add to Favorites 971 Remove From Favorites 2848 days ago
Breaking down another fight, Xande's opponent is playing half guard with the knee shield, and the classic collar and sleeve grips. Xande first whizzers the leg, and after attempting a weave pass, he swam his hand inside and made a collar grip on his opponent. Now he grabs the pants with his other hand and puts some pressure down. His opponent reacts by pushing back, giving Xande the opportunity to stand up, push the leg inside and jump to the other side. His opponent reacts by trying to turn back into him, so Xande makes a cross face and maintains side control.Add to Favorites 733 Remove From Favorites 2849 days ago
Xande talks about choking your opponent from the mount, with four fingers in the lapel versus your thumb in the lapel. His preferred grip is with the thumb in, because it allows him to make a deeper grip in the collar. Another detail is that while finishing the choke, he puts his head on the mat to the side of his top hand.Add to Favorites 835 Remove From Favorites 2851 days ago
Breaking down another one of his fights, Xande has mounted his opponent, and he defends by turning on his side to block Xande's leg. Immediately, Xande goes to the technical mount and grabs the cross collar with the thumb inside, and flattens him out. Because he didn't feel he had a great grip, Xande let go of the collar to open the other collar, and make a cross grip with his other hand. At this point, his opponent turned back on his side, so Xande moved around, placing his chest on the back. Next he reached his free hand over the head and opened the neck with his forearm to make his second collar grip. Now he could bring his forearm across the throat and go back to full mount to finish the choke.
