Monique sets up her omoplata and sweeps as she did before, but now when she lands on top, she keeps the arm trapped in her leg and grabs hold of the triceps. She posts her other hand on the mat and uses it to help her spin around toward the head. She places her top foot under the head and her other foot over the shoulder. From here she can lay back with the arm and raise her hips to finish the armbar.

Monique locks up the omoplata as before, and as she sits up to reach for the belt, her opponent rolls forward to defend. Monique follows and ends up on top with the biceps locked between her thigh and calf. She grabs her opponent's head, and now releases the trapped arm in order to establish side control.Add to Favorites 652 Remove From Favorites 2682 days ago
Monique sets up her omoplata as she showed in the previous position, but her opponent is defending and not letting her finish. Monique releases her collar grip and wraps her arm around the elbow. She plants her foot on the mat and escapes her hips toward her opponent's head, and brings her leg on top of the arm, pinching it with her legs. She adjusts her grips on the arm, and pulls it while extending her hips to finish the armbar.Add to Favorites 643 Remove From Favorites 2683 days ago
Monique is playing her spider guard with the cross collar and sleeve grips, her foot in the biceps and a De La Riva hook. She kicks her opponent's far leg away, and pulls pulls on the collar and sleeve, breaking the posture. She shoots her leg up for the triangle as she did before, but her opponent defends by putting her arm inside. Monique pulls the sleeve and switches her hips to the side of the De La Riva hook. Now she can throw her hook leg over the shoulder to lock the omoplata. Now she reaches over the back to grab the belt, and sits up to finish the submission.Add to Favorites 680 Remove From Favorites 2684 days ago
Monique has both sleeve grips and makes a De La Riva hook. She kicks her opponent's other leg back and pulls the sleeves, stretching her arms and breaking her posture. Now she raises her hips and throws her leg up behind her opponent's neck to bite down on the triangle. She drags the arm across her body and locks the triangle with her other leg to finish the choke. She can also do this position using the collar and sleeve grip.Add to Favorites 767 Remove From Favorites 2685 days ago
In a variation from her previous sweep, Monique now shows how she uses the back roll to sweep her opponent while trying to pass. Her opponent has taken off the De La Riva hook, and worked her way to Monique's side, looking to establish the pass. While keeping her foot in the biceps leg stretched, Monique times her back roll to use her opponent's momentum, and sweeps her, landing in side control or north south position.Add to Favorites 827 Remove From Favorites 2686 days ago
Monique has her lasso guard and her opponent stands up with a good base, so Monique puts her free foot in the biceps, and removes her lasso, swinging her leg to the De La Riva guard. Pushing off her feet, Monique uses her core to spin toward her De La Riva hook. As she spins, she stretches her foot in the biceps, and uses the momentum to sweep her opponent backward. She rolls back over her shoulder and lands in the mount.Add to Favorites 839 Remove From Favorites 2688 days ago

In this series, Monique Elias, who is Black Belt World Champion and wife of Mario Reis, shows us some of her favorite techniques from the spider guard. She begins with both sleeve grips and one foot on her opponent's hip. She brings her other leg over the arm to make her lasso hook, and her other hand releases the sleeve and grabs the pants outside the knee. Now she turns her hips toward the knee grip, and creates the leverage she needs to turn back hard the other way, and sweep her opponent. As she comes up, she lets go of the sleeve grip to control the head, and she establishes side control.Add to Favorites 1566 Remove From Favorites 2691 days ago
Xande is playing the classic guard, and his opponent pushes the knee down, steps over the leg and crosses his knee to start knee cutting. As he did in the guard retention drills, Xande pulls the sleeve and places his foot on the hip. His opponent reacts by standing and pulling away, so Xande places his other foot on the hip, and now he is in perfect position to hit the omoplata, just as he did in the last technique.Add to Favorites 1293 Remove From Favorites 2692 days ago
Xande has the classic guard, and his opponent stands up, so Xande keeps his grips and places both feet on the hips. Now he pulls the collar, elevates his hip and pulls the arm out to the side. He brings his leg in, pinching the arm and forcing it to bend. From here, he is pushing both of his grips, and now he can bring his leg over the arm to lock the omoplata.
