Showing how he sets up his butterfly guard, Xande first teaches the butterfly lift drill. With both hooks in place, he pulls himself close to his opponent and gets his hips underneath as lays back and lifts him up with his hooks. He reaches one arm behind the back and his other hand grabs the pants. He stretches his legs and puts his opponent back on the mat, then brings his leg on the pants grip side to him. He keeps his head in the chest and here he is set up to attack from his butterfly guard.

Now from 50/50 guard, when Tex goes for the heel hook, his opponent turns out to escape. As he turns, Tex traps the leg between his calf and hamstring, and while behind his opponent, he reaches around the waist to pull himself tight, forcing the tap. Now from the 50/50 guard, Tex's opponent knows what is coming so he pushes the leg and turns away to get out of 50/50. Tex catches the far leg, inverts to the inside and traps the leg. He makes sure to control the toes and then places the foot in his armpit, where he can trap it with his arm and crank the heel hook.Add to Favorites 529 Remove From Favorites 2003 days ago
Using the same inverting spin from the closed guard, Tex grabs the foot and locks down his heel hook control with his arm. His outside leg goes across and he steps his feet on the far leg to prevent his opponent from turning to escape. Again, it's key that he pinches his legs together as he cranks the heel to finish the submission.Add to Favorites 461 Remove From Favorites 2004 days ago
Starting from closed guard, Tex inverts the same as before to go for the kneebar, but his opponent turns into him and they end up in the 50/50 guard. If his opponent is hiding his foot by locking a triangle, Tex lifts the top leg up and places it on his shoulder, giving him access to the foot he wants to attack. Now he isolates the heel with his arm, and pinches both legs together while his feet are on the hip. Once he cranks the heel from here, his opponent submits immediately.Add to Favorites 671 Remove From Favorites 2005 days ago

Again from side control, Rene wants the triangle but his opponent knows and won't come to the top. Now Rene lifts his opponent's head off the mat with his arm, and steps over, already placing his leg in position under the head. He can continue to roll to his side where he can finish the choke.
